Auttiköngäs nature trail

The Auttiköngäs Nature Trail is located about 70 km from Rovaniemi toward Posio. Auttiköngäs, or Autti Falls, is an ideal destination for day trips. It is easy to reach and has a magnificent landscape. The area’s main attraction is the 16-metre-high waterfall. The forest in the Auttiköngäs area is so old that it can be called a primary or virgin forest. There has never been any organised logging in the area.

The Auttiköngäs Nature Trail passes on both sides of Auttijoki in varying and relatively difficult terrain. Steps have been built on the hillsides with resting places to make climbing easier. At the nature tower on the peak of Könkäänvaara, your efforts will be rewarded with gorgeous scenery. When it is dry, you do not need rubber boots on this trail, which crosses the river on a suspension bridge. There are nature information boards along the trail, so you should allow a couple of hours for the round. The Auttiköngäs nature trail is 3.8 km long, marked, and circular.

There are two lean-tos along the nature trail with campfire sites. One is next to the parking area and the other halfway around the nature trail near the suspension bridge. Outhouses and woodsheds can be found at the lean-tos. The Auttiköngäs Log Driving Cabin is a day-trip cabin near the parking area. Making an open fire is only permitted at the constructed campfire sites using the provided firewood.

Directions: drive 2.6 km out of Rovaniemi along Sodankyläntie; turn right on Kuusamontie; drive 49.3 km to Vanttauskoski; turn right on Kuusamontie; drive 1.5 km; turn left on Kuusamontie; drive 27.5 km; turn left on Auttikönkääntie; drive 1.2 km to the parking area. There is a regular bus connection between Rovaniemi and Posio. There is a bus stop at the Auttiköngäs intersection. The starting point of the nature trail is in the parking area.

Hyvä reitti. Hyvin merkattu, erinomaisessa kunnossa ja hyviä nähtävyyksiä. Syyskuussa Laavulla oli suhteellisen paljon porukkaa sinä viikonloppuna kun kävin.
