The Kontonulkki Scenery Trail is 33.9 km north-west of Rovaniemi, in Marraskoski. There are many high hills and beautiful lakes in the area.
The Kontonulkki Scenery Trail starts from the end of a forest road and turns into a pleasant forest path. The one-way length of the path is 1.8 km, and it is open during the snow-free season. It winds up the southern edge of the Kontonulkki hill to a vantage point on the peak, 265 metres above sea-level. The vantage point is amidst heavy forests, and there is an impressive cliff close by.
There is a log-built lean-to at the end of the path on the peak of Kontonulkki. It features a campfire site and woodshed. An observation tower stands next to the lean-to. It is low and has no roof, like a moose-hunting tower. The tower has fantastic views over the area’s lakes.
Directions: Drive 37.7 km out of Rovaniemi along Kittiläntie; turn left on Mukkajärventie; drive 3.7 km; turn left on the forest road to Maunuvaara; drive 1.6 km to a boom; walk around one kilometre along the forest road to the trail. The distance from the boom to the lean-to and tower is 2.85 km. The trail is marked with posts.
